Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hinted that Axel Tuanzebe could play a role in Manchester United next season after receiving an excellent loan campaign at Aston Villa.

The 21-year-old has spent much of the past 18 months with Villa in the championship and has played an important role during his season's winning season with 28 caps.

Tuanzebe played every minute of Villa's playoff phase, including a 2-1 win over Derby County in the Wembley final. The club had wanted to sign it this summer.

However, it seems that Tuanzebe will have a chance to claim his place in the United team after impressing Solskjaer during the club's pre-season tour in Australia.

Solskjaer said: "Axel has a good chance to stay here and play. He had a good season last year, despite injuries, but he proved he was able to play at this level.

"He was promoted to Aston Villa and he came back very strong and focused, he did well in the first game here in Perth, so he's one of the exciting young players I can not wait for. see more »

Tuanzebe has been with United since the age of eight and was named the club's Young Player of the Year in 2015 before joining the senior relief team.

During Jose Mourinho's tenure, Tuanzebe was seen eight times before being loaned to Villa to win a more regular first-team football.

Despite the emergence of Tuanzebe, Solskjaer is keen to recruit this summer an experienced central defender, with Harry Maguire of Leicester City topping his list.

The 26-year-old would have informed Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers and his teammates that he wanted to leave this summer because of the interest shown by United and Manchester City.
