Gregory Afoko, one of two suspects whose trial is presumed for the murder of the party president of the Upper East Regional Party (NPP) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), was encouraged in 2015 to start a hunger strike to protest the ongoing trial.
The High Court of Accra on Monday canceled on March 14, 2019 the decision by another high court to grant Gregory Afoko bail on bail.
The High Court ruling presided over by Judge Merley Afua Wood on Monday, July 15, 2019 has been widely condemned by reputable legal experts questioning the reason for the cancellation of the bond.
Attorney Francis-Xavier Sosu believes that the ongoing lawsuit against the suspect is political and tainted with unconstitutionality that has violated Gregory Afoko's rights and freedom.
Speaking during an interview on Yem Radio in Bolgatanga under the control of MyNewsGh.com, the renowned lawyer and human rights advocate suggested that a strike by the suspect's hunger may not be in his place.
"If I were Grégory Afoko, I would go on a hunger strike until I died in custody and my blood would be asked of them." That's what I would have done. I would have encouraged Gregory Afoko to go on a hunger strike. He should not take anything that is offered to him in this custody until something happens, "he said.
