On Tuesday, Facebook's Instagram photo sharing application encountered service interruption issues that prevented some users from being able to use the app.
"Earlier in the day, some people may have had difficulty accessing Instagram," said an Instagram spokesperson at CNBC. "The problem has since been solved, we have returned 100% for everyone and we are sorry for any inconvenience."
A representative of ThousandEyes, which monitors global Internet traffic, said in an email that "the company's tests showed that Instagram servers were not responsive for about ten minutes."
Instagram has become one of the most important parts of Facebook in the last two years. The application had more than one billion monthly users, including 500 million daily users of its growing feature stories, starting in January. Rival Snap, in comparison, has 190 million daily users, the company announced in April.
The service issues are the most recent for Facebook, which has faced several service outages this year, including a major disruption on July 3, which lasted 16 hours, according to the website on the state of the Facebook platform.
