The Government of China has agreed to provide a batch of scanning equipment at some airports in Ghana.
In a letter dated June 25, 2019, Deng Boqing, vice-president of the Chinese Cooperation for International Development and addressed to the Deputy Minister of Finance Charles Adu Boahen, announced that the equipment is worth 94.6 million yuan.
The above amount includes insurance and shipping costs and the material must be delivered to Ghana by Seal-land International Transportation.
The five airports mentioned in the letter include: Kumasi Airport, Ho Airport, Tamale, Wa and Suyani Airports.
According to the letter, the Chinese government will send engineers to Ghana to install and commission the equipment, as well as to provide technical advice.
He said the expenses should be settled with the help of the Chinese grant provided for by the economic and technological cooperation agreement between the Chinese and Ghanaian governments.
He further noted that the Chinese Government would issue a four-way settlement letter and settle it through the China Development Bank and the Bank of Ghana.
The Government of Ghana, for its part, has agreed to exempt the above-mentioned digitization equipment and the necessary requirements for the Chinese technical staff of the import tariff and other duties or taxes.
He will also be responsible for the customs clearance, delivery, transportation and storage of imports on the site after their arrival at the port of Tema, in the Greater Accra region.
The Ghanaian government is also responsible for the temporary supply of water and electricity, related support projects at construction sites and all related expenses.
