Jean Mensah EC BOSS Jean Mensah is the electoral commissioner

According to the Electoral Commission, about 1.2 million new voters were enrolled as part of the limited registration exercise that ended last week.

Of this number, 8,500 new voters were challenged.

According to the commission, the figure of 1.2 million was provisional because it always checked the actual figure with the Voter Management System (VMS) to delete several registrations.

In an interview with Radio Ghana in Kumasi, the director of election services, Mr. Serebour Quaicoe, said the commission had originally planned to save about 700,000, but eventually reached 1.2 million.

"But I say it's a temporary figure because we are now checking the machine itself, we still have to use a USB stick to transfer the system data into the VMS. [Voter Management System]So we want to be sure that we have captured all those who have registered (…) so that we get the real number, "said Dr. Quaicoe.

"The law states that your name should appear only once on the register, but when we started to export the numbers into the database, the number of multiple registrations is high", a- he declared.

He added that the Ashanti region had the highest number of new voters (209,810), followed by Greater Accra, eastern and central regions.

"This year, the protest system was very very weak, maybe we understand each other because some of the challenges are minimal. The person will just look at your face and say that you are not a Ghanaian, you are When we appeared before the committee, we realized that the challenge had no basis, "said Dr. Quaicoe.

With regard to the creation of new constituencies, Mr. Quaicoe explained that the constitution provides that seven years after the previous demarcation of constituencies, the commission may revise or after the publication of census results.

"There have been many requests for the creation of new constituencies, but for the moment, the commission has not made the decision to create or not to create," he said.
