Clarence Seedorf was appointed head coach of Cameroon in August 2018
Former Dutch midfielder Clarence Seedorf was sacked from his Cameroon coaching post after his team failed to defend his title from the Africa Cup of Nations.
The 43-year-old Real Madrid player had been in charge for less than a year.
His badistant Patrick Kluivert, his former teammate in the Netherlands and Ajax, has also left his role.
Cameroon lost 3-2 in Nigeria in the last 16 games in Egypt, prompting the country's sports minister to demand Seedorf's departure.
Seedorf had declared that he was happy to continue and felt that his team had shown promising signs.
The former player of Real Madrid and AC Milan signed a four-year contract to take over the indomitable Lions in August 2018.
But a statement confirmed that "following the premature exit of the flagship team of Cameroon, the Cameroon Football Federation, in accordance with the terms of their respective contracts, has decided to terminate the contracts of Seedorf and Kluivert".
Seedorf and Kluivert were tasked with retaining the Africa Cup of Nations – which was originally to be held in Cameroon – and aim to reach the 2021 tournament and the 2022 World Cup at the Qatar.
The long-term contracts also stipulated that the pair had to live in the country and provide support to the other national teams.
