Government must put in place comprehensive vehicle financing program

Accra, July 17, GNA – Government Works
with authorized dealers and dealers, as well as
financial institutions to put in place a comprehensive vehicle financing system
allow Ghanaians to buy "Made in Ghana" vehicles.

In addition, the Government had concluded
discussions and negotiations with global car manufacturers, including
Toyota Ghana Limited will establish vehicle badembly plants as part of the
industrial transformation program of the country.

The badembly of vehicles and the automobile
the industry is one of the ten strategic anchor industries under development
in Ghana to serve as new pillars of growth and to diversify the economy,
away from cocoa, gold and other mineral resources.

Alan Kyeremanten, Minister of Commerce
and Industry, said this during the commissioning of a new state-of-the-art facility
Toyota Ghana Limited located on the Accra highway.

He said the government would take all measures
necessary measures to encourage component manufacturers to invest in the country
as part of the component supply development program and bring
Small and medium enterprises to participate in the program supply chain.

The Minister stated that the government's vision was to
turn the country into a major modern car manufacturing center
Africa, noting that the new regime of initiatives and benefits provided
as part of Ghana's auto policy had attracted Toyota Ghana and others
Automotive companies to invest in the badembly and manufacture of vehicles
the industry in the country.

"We will work closely with Toyota and others
automotive companies expand presence and operations in Ghana
especially in the ECOWAS sub-region, especially with the entry into force
African continent, "he added.

He stated that the strategic objectives of
aggressively promote vehicle badembly in the country was to
create quality skilled jobs for young people, promote import substitution,
increase exports and improve the balance of payments, and transform security
and the quality of the country's transportation system.

Vehicle imports into the country amounted to
more than a billion dollars in 2017.

He stated that Toyota Ghana's presence in Ghana had
progressively achieved operational excellence and quality of performance through
corporate social responsibilities (CSR), which had an impact on the lives of
Ghanaians, urging them to continue to make further progress in the response to
citizens' needs.

He congratulated the company for its
recognition by the Chartered Institute of Marketing Ghana as a car company
in the year 2018.

Mr. Takuya Kajiura, Executive Director of
Toyota Ghana Limited stated that the company had increased its shares in the
automotive market to 26%, becoming the world's first company
Statistics of the Association of Automobile Distributors of Ghana.

He said that the company had signed a memorandum
of agreement with the University of Ghana for the construction of a multi-purpose system
training complex for the University's School of Engineering, which
include a body shop and hands-on training for engineering students.

Mr. Kajiura stated that the company was part of his
long-term vision had invested in infrastructure for network expansion and would
continue to offer customers the maximum experience and service satisfaction.

"We have considered the social social business
accountability as a national development tool and pillar of business
growth. We dedicate each year a portion of our profits to CSR activities in the
areas of health, environment, education and road safety, "he added.

Mr. Tsutomu Himeno, Ambbadador of Japan
in Ghana, said the new building would significantly contribute to
workers' development and strengthen national development.

Mr. Shinichiro Otsuka, Director General of
Toyota Tsusho Corporation, the automotive department of Toyota Africa, announced the
This facility would further improve Toyota Ghana's sales and service
thus help to improve customer satisfaction.

Mr. Jiro Itali, Executive Director,
Marubeni Corporation, described the facility as a citadel of automobiles
innovation with all the sophisticated technologies to improve the quality of service
delivery.

Toyota Ghana Company was incorporated in
Ghana in 1998 by the investment of Marubeni Corporation, Japan and Marubeni
Auto Europe in South Africa and Belgium.
