Mahama Ayariga MARTIN Mahama Ayariga, Bawku MP and Martin Amidu, Special Prosecutor

The lawyers for Bawku Central MP Mahama Ayariga have asked the High Court in Accra to stay the trial.

Edudzi Tamakloe, a member of his legal team, said Wednesday before a high court in Accra that the case could not be continued because of the pending appeal.

The former sports minister's lawyer challenges an earlier court ruling.

The MP accused of having used his public mandate for personal purposes by the special prosecutor, Martin Amidu, had previously asked the court to dismiss the case against him, insofar as he implicated him in the case. 39, eligibility of Mr Amidu.

Judge Asare Botwe, who was presiding over the court, rejected the request, saying that despite the ongoing case involving Mr. Amidu's eligibility to the Supreme Court, he could still lay charges.

But Mr Tamakloe urged the court to terminate the proceedings as it seeks to overturn the Court of Appeals judgment.

However, the Special Prosecutor's Office, represented by Michael Baafi, objected to the request.

He argued that if the trial progressed, Mr. Ayariga will not suffer any prejudice.

According to him, the court of appeal (who heard the appeal) and the Supreme Court (which ruled on the case of Amidu's eligibility) can make orders that truncate the trial s & dquo; He believes that the case is well-founded.

Judge Afia Asare Botwe adjourned the case on July 31 to render her decision.

The court that also heard another case involving the MP regarding the importation of cars received a request from the Special Prosecutor to replace the previously filed complaint.
