Tamale's central deputy, Inusah Fuseini, will not support any candidate for the upcoming Democratic National Congress primary elections, as he will retire from parliament at the end of 2020.

The deputy, who represents the people of Central Tamale since 2006, told Citi News that he felt that the constituency should be free to elect anyone able to replace him.

"If you choose a successor, you will perpetuate your power. I do not want to perpetuate myself and impose myself on the people of Central Tamale through another person. I want to give them a free option. A good leader is one who creates opportunities for emergence for many other leaders. "

Mr. Fuseini did not choose application forms to participate in the parliamentary primaries of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), thus confirming his intention to withdraw from Parliament.

At the closing of the nominations, on Friday, July 12, 2019, three people had selected forms to contest the primaries for the Tamale Central constituency.

They are Ibrahim Murtala, Hanan Gundadow and Alhaji Alhbadan Adam.

Inusah Fuseini became a member of Parliament in a by-election in 2006, after the then-ruling Wayo Seini switched from the NDC to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

It managed to maintain its seat in 2008 with 66% of the votes cast and maintained its seat in 2012 with 61% and in 2016 with 60% of the votes cast.

He will have been in office for 14 years as he leaves Parliament in 2020.
