Sisters Safa and Marwa Ullah, two years old, from Charsadda, Pakistan, have undergone large successful operations to part ways at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) in London.
On Monday, July 15, 2019, the hospital announced that the twins had been successfully separated after more than 50 hours of operation since October 2018.

The girls were only released on July 1, 2019, when doctors at the health center said they were well enough to leave the hospital.
"I would be optimistic that at the age of three, they walk," said one of the doctors who performed this operation.

The team used a virtual reality replica of the girls' skull to understand the relationships between their brain and blood vessels and propose the best strategy for separating them.
They also created 3D models to practice surgery and develop cutting guides.
In multiple surgeries, the surgeons then separated the brain and blood vessels intertwined in the girls' skulls.

They inserted a piece of plastic between the two brains to complete the separation internally.
The last major step was to have doctors build new skulls using their own tissue and bone expander to make sure the twins' skin stretched over their heads.
After the surgery, the girls started bleeding after clots had formed in the veins of Safa's neck and she started sending blood to her twin, Marwa.

Concerned about the risk of Marwa's loss after the fall of her heartbeat, the doctors gave her a main vein shared by the twins, but this had an impact on Safa, victim of a stroke less than 12 hours later.
The hospital then worked with physiotherapists and dieticians, among others, to help girls recover and prepare for life in individual bodies.
According to the report, surgery paid for by a private donor was followed by several smaller interventions, totaling more than 50 hours of surgery.

"We are indebted to the hospital and the staff and we thank them for all that they have done. We are extremely happy about the future, "said the mother of girls, Zainab Bibi.
The girls, whose father died of a heart attack while their mother was pregnant with them, were transferred to London with their mother, their grandfather and an uncle.
Meanwhile, as part of measures to connect an isolated village to electricity, engineering students in Ashesi and a local NGO built a solar power plant to power Eskubi, an isolated village in eastern Ghana. .
