The journey up to now:
Both teams qualified as second best in their respective groups. Nigeria was ahead of Group B before Madagascar was upset with a 2-0 lead at the top of the group.
At the round of 16, they eliminated defending champion Cameroon by a five-goal thriller before facing South Africa with two goals against one for the quarter-finals.
Their clash in the semi-finals with Algeria seemed predicted to extend until Riyad Mahrez broke the hearts of Nigerians with a free kick at the last minute.
For its part, Tunisia had three draws in Group E but nevertheless finished second in Group E behind Mali. They beat Ghana in the round of 16 and tactically dislodged Madagascar – the surprise package from AFCON by three unanswered goals.

Tunisia has won only one of its three games in third place in Afcon's history. This triumph was a 3-0 win over Uganda in 1962.
