The West African nation on Wednesday won its eighth bronze medal in Africa's first football tournament

Alex Iwobi described Nigeria's third place finish at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations as a huge success.

The Super Eagles beat Tunisia 1-0 at Al Salam Stadium on Wednesday, thanks to Odion Ighalo's efforts in the first half.

This victory allowed the Nigerian to win three play-offs in eighth place and win five victories against the Carthage Eagles.

A semi-final defeat against Algeria wiped out their hopes of winning the coveted title on Sunday, but Iwobi believes the bronze medal will prompt Gernot Rohr's "younger" team to do more.

"It's a great success considering the quality of the 24 teams, especially since our team is very young," Iwobi told Caf Media.

"We are happy with this medal and look forward to doing better at the next Africa Cup of Nations."

The Arsenal midfielder was a regular at the Super Eagles team in Egypt and played in all their matches.

He picked the toughest game he played in the tournament and also praised the fans.

"It's hard to say, because of the quality even in group stage against Burundi, Guinea and Madagascar," he continued.

"The hardest part was trying to defeat the team that knocked us out, Algeria, maybe it was against them because we could not win."

"Thanks to the fans for their support, we will always make them proud of the support they bring us."
