Donald Trump said the impeachment attempts were "ridiculous"
An offer to launch an impeachment proceeding against President Donald Trump has been blocked in the US House of Representatives.
Texas Democrat Al Green tabled the resolution after the House voted to denounce Mr. Trump's racist attacks on four women in the US Congress.
But the measure failed to get enough support, as his fellow Democrats voted overwhelmingly against it.
Trump said the "ridiculous" attempts to remove him were now "over."
"It should never happen again to another US president!" he tweeted.
Why now?
This week's attempt came shortly after Trump's repeated attacks on four congressional women, who began with a series of tweets urging unidentified politicians to "return" to their country.

The four women – representatives of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley and Rashida Tlaib – are American citizens. Mr. Trump has since tweeted that he does not have "racist bones" in his body.
However, the House pbaded a symbolic resolution denouncing Mr. Trump's "racist comments legitimizing the fear and hatred of New Americans and people of color".

Mr. Green seemed to be hopeful that the growing anger at the president would give him the support he needed.
In his resolution, he said that Mr. Trump had "accused of contempt, ridicule, disgrace and discredit the high office of the President of the United States."
Why did he fail?
Until now, Democratic leaders have refused to initiate a dismissal procedure. Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House of Commons, repeatedly reiterated that she did not want to act until a "one-sided lawsuit" was brought against the president.
"We have six committees that strive to follow the facts about abuse of power, obstruction of justice and other acts committed by the president." It's the serious road that we are following, "Pelosi told reporters on: Wednesday.
Although the motion was defeated (332 voting against), it indicated growing Democrat support for the impeachment process.
A total of 95 Democrats voted in favor of the measure – an increase in support for Green's two previous attempts in 2017 and 2018.
What is dismissal anyway?
In this context, "impeach" means bringing proceedings before the Congress, which will serve as a basis for a trial.
The US Constitution states that a president "shall be removed from office for indictment and for conviction for treason, corruption or other crimes or offenses of great magnitude".
The impeachment process must be initiated by the House of Representatives and requires only a simple majority. The trial will take place in the Senate.
But here a two-thirds vote is needed for the dismissal of the president – and this step has never been crossed in the history of America.
