Samira Humanitarian and Empowerment Projects (SEHP) trained 1,200 women in the shea value chain industry, applying best practices in shea harvesting.

This is part of the first phase of the Shea Empowerment Initiative (SEI) in the north of the country.

The SEI project is being undertaken by SEHP in partnership with Ghana EXIM Bank (GEXIM), as part of its Grbadroot Initiative Development (GRID) initiative, designed to stimulate rural economies.

It is a livelihood empowerment program aimed at equipping women in the shea value chain industry with best practices in harvesting and processing fish. shea.

The first phase of the training focused on harvesting shea nuts safely and effectively producing quality shea kernels.

The trainees, who are shea-collectors who depend on trade for their livelihood, came from the municipalities of Wa, Gushegu, West Mamprusi and Kbadena Nankana located in the far west, north, north-east and south-west respectively. Extreme east.

Safety and protection gears

Each trainee was provided with safety and protection equipment including: headlamps, gloves and rubber boots to allow them to pick the nuts safely.

They also received pans to facilitate the collection of nuts.

The second phase of the project will involve the training of 400 shea processors and the commissioning of four shea processing plants.
