Issues are settled at Awaso as GIADEC CEO commits a bauxite company and its stakeholders

Mr. Michael Ansah, President and CEO of the Ghanaian Aluminum Integration Company (GIADEC), has had a positive impact in ensuring that the deal is settled in Ghana Bauxite Company Ltd . (GBC), in Awaso, in the new Northwest Region.

The GIADEC CEO led a delegation to make a working visit to Ghana Bauxite Company Ltd. (GBC), in Awaso, in the newly created West West Region, to resolve a conflict between local workers in the company and management.

The delegation included a member of the GIADEC Board of Directors, the Hon. Benito Owusu-Bio, MP, also Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources and a member of the GIADEC Leadership Team.

The delegation was joined during the visit of the MCE of the Municipal Authority of Bibiani-AnhwiasoBekwai (BABMA), the Hon. Alfred Amuah and a representation of the SefwiBekwai Police Command, led by Supt. Isaac Baah.

Ghana's bauxite company has recently been affected by industrial unrest affecting some of its personnel, causing extensive damage to buildings and other property.

The group was greeted upon arrival by the management of Ghana Bauxite Company, headed by Mr. J. Kang, Managing Director of GBC Ltd., Deputy General Manager, Mr. Lui Xin, Mr. Emmanuel Agyapong, Director of the Mine, and Mr. Isaac Ofori Poku, local representative of Bosai Minerals Group. They led the delegation on a tour of the company premises to share their personal experience of the damage caused by the raging workers. Considerable damage has been done to the company's office buildings, with computers and office equipment being totally damaged. An official residence and company vehicles had also been completely burned. The delegation then visited Awaso's bauxite mine, which has since resumed operations, albeit only partially.

The Director General informed the delegation that, through the intervention of Omanhene, Nana KwameAmponsah III and the District Security Council (DISEC), as well as representatives of the Construction Workers Union and TUC building materials, peace had prevailed and resumed mining operations.

After the visit, the delegation organized a round table with the management of GBC, the MCE, the security forces and the GIADEC team. The discussion focused on measures to maintain calm and implement measures to maintain the safety of mine personnel and property and to ensure that GBC can resume operations. Michael Ansahlater took the opportunity to thank all the stakeholders who had collaborated and supported the process to reach the resolution of the conflict.

Mr Ansah explained the creation of GIADEC under Law 976 (2018) and the role that the company, which now incorporates the government's stake in Ghana Bauxite Company, should play in the industry. integrated aluminum. He underscored the importance of the company, the workers and the community working together to build a strong base of industrial relations and a socially responsible philosophy that would bring benefits to all stakeholders.

With regard to security, Supt. Amuah spoke on behalf of the security forces. He badured that their investigations had progressed well and that some of the perpetrators had already been arrested. Security at the company's premises has also been enhanced to ensure the safety of staff and their day-to-day operations.

Earlier, Ansah and his team had held a separate meeting with representatives of the TUC Construction and Building Materials Workers' Union, who had played a key role in negotiating a peaceful settlement of the conflict, culminating in the a settlement agreed by all parties.

Nana Kwame Amponsah, Awaso Omanhene, who played a leading role in bringing all parties together around the negotiating table to reach an acceptable settlement, later came to the visit with courtesy. Mr. Ansah expressed his gratitude on behalf of His Excellency Nana Akufo-Addo's government for the support of the Chief and his Elders for the speedy resolution of the labor dispute.

He explained the GIADEC project to continue mining in the Awaso region and pledged its commitment to ensure responsible and sustainable development of the integrated aluminum industry, which would ensure the development of its region and would be beneficial for all stakeholders and Ghana as a country.
