NPP Electoral District Leaders Protest Central Region President | Policy

Leaders of the new Patriotic Party (NPP) constituencies from the 23 districts of the Central Region organized a protest against the party's president.

The leaders accused Robert Kutin of presiding over the suspension of the party's regional vice president, Ekow Ewusi.

Ewusi was suspended Monday by the president after refusing to respond to a petition from Edward Okraku Adum who accused him of indulging in criminal acts, including drug trafficking.

He was also charged with escaping from prison in the United Kingdom and illegally auctioning excavators seized at mining sites.

The Regional Vice President reportedly asked the President to produce the said petitioner in order to authenticate his complaint before he replied to the one he had agreed to do within a week or so.

However, he did not respect his commitment, leaving the party's regional leaders unhappy.

They then suspended Mr. Ewusi for an indefinite period and referred him to the party's regional discipline committee to further investigate.

At a press conference held after the protest, angry leaders called on their national leaders to ensure the reinstatement of the vice president.

They wondered why the regional president made the decision to suspend Mr. Ewusi when he was not allowed to do so.

"Why is he acting on something that has not been entrusted to him? We ask if there is a case of personal interest on the part of the regional president. If not, we are more challenged to question the authority and power that the regional president has exercised to suspend his vice-president.

"Article 11, paragraphs 4 and 5 of our party's constitution clearly states the procedures for dismissal of an elected member. It is important to indicate that nowhere in the constitution a regional president is empowered to suspend a colleague member of the regional executive without resorting to the party's disciplinary procedures, "said the executive officer in a statement.

They promised to spare no effort in their quest for true justice for Mr. Ewusi.

The leaders instructed the vice president not to be discouraged, but to continue to play his crucial role in the party to ensure the NPP's victory in the 2020 elections.
