Francis Awine Anaafo, a 33-year-old trainee nurse from the Sekondi College of Nursing and Midwifery, in the Western Region, was sentenced to 22 months in jail for using falsified documents in order to get himself Goaso Municipal Hospital.

Mr. Anaafo was sentenced on Friday, June 28, 2019 by the Madina District Court of First Instance following his conviction for fraud by false pretense and impersonation.

Facts about the case

On February 21, 2019, the medical superintendent of the Goaso Municipal Hospital wrote to the council to inform him that Mr. Francis Anaafo, who used the name Simon Yaw Woli, was underperforming and that he should therefore be the subject of an investigation.

Upon receipt of the letter, Mr Anaafo was invited to the Accra headquarters where he was invited to present his registration certificate, result bulletin and national logbook. During the examination of the document, counsel found that Mr. Anaafo had fraudulently used the name of Mr. Simon Yaw Woli, a qualified nurse practitioner, to obtain a case extract from the police station of the Ministry stating that his certificate his report card and logbook were missing.

Mr. Anaafo fraudulently obtained a duplicate of Mr. Woli's registered nurse-general certificate with the excerpt and presented it to the National Service Secretariat for registration for the 2018 National Service.

After successfully registering with the National Service Secretariat, Mr. Anaafo was posted to the Goaso Municipal Hospital, where he began his service in September 2018.
