Formula 1 rules 2021 made restrictive to avoid racing limitations – F1

Formula 1 sports director Ross Brawn said it was important that the 2021 rules be tough on teams to stop them from designing cars that were harmful to the race.

F1 has unveiled its plan for future grand prix cars earlier this week, which will see a shift to a new ground-effect design that F1 hopes to allow for a better race.

The redesigned front fenders were crossed this year with a simplified car design, but its impact was minimal.

Brawn understands that the lack of freedom in the design of the 2021 rules will be "frustrating" for the teams, but believes that this is necessary for the sake of the show.

"We know that with these very proscriptive regulations, the fertile minds of F1 will come up with different solutions," Brawn said during a presentation of the new rules.

"They [the rules] will be proscriptive because we have to make sure we achieve these goals, but there is enough latitude.

"Without a doubt, given the relative freedom that teams have up to now, it will be frustrating.

"But if they can consider that these regulations are the same for everyone and if they do better than anyone," we will not be two seconds faster, we will be two tenths faster ", that's what we want in F1. "

One of the teams' concerns about the new rules is that the restrictions on car design will make it more difficult to distinguish between each machine.

However, Brawn disagrees with this argument, pointing out that the current car grid is largely similar.

"We were very proscriptive at first, because otherwise we will not achieve the goals," Brawn said during a presentation of the new rules.

"There are complaints that all the cars will look alike and the other nonsense we've heard, so like exercise, Pat [Symonds] took all the existing cars and took the livery of them and set them up [on a wall].

"You can not tell the difference between the cars we have now once the colors have been removed.

"You have to be an extreme geek to choose, and even within our office, we managed to choose three!

"So when you see the existing cars with the colors removed, you will not know it."
