The president of the Institute of Architects of Ghana urged the government to comply with the law when awarding key projects to architects.
Architect Nii Dadey said the concerns of a consortium of Ghanaian architects against projects attributed to Sir David Adjaye, a Ghanaian architect based in the UK, were justified and called on the government to look for equity.
Speaking Wednesday on the MultiTV, PM Express news program, Nii Dadey said local architects felt marginalized by the government, primarily, and by other private institutions for iconic projects. attributed to individuals or groups not recognized by the Institute, in violation of the law. .

In the petition addressed to the President, with a copy to the Speaker of Parliament, the President of the Institute of Architects of Ghana, Clerk of the Board of Architects of Ghana and Executive Director of the Institution of 39, Ghana Engineering, Coordinator of the Consortium, Dr. Ekow Sam, indicated in the petition that the projects had been awarded to Sir Adjaye without regard to Ghana's procurement laws (Law No. 663).
In his petition, Dr. Sam baderted that the awarding of the National Cathedral, the new House of Commons, the Master Plan for Marine Drive and the International Childhood Cancer Center, as well as the redesign of the Exhibition grounds, the GNPC Takoradi office complex, the design of airport 2 and the redevelopment and expansion of the Ghana Embbady in the United States were awarded to Adjaye and Associates, of Sir Adjaye, without respecting the principles of transparency, fairness, equity and legislation governing the award of contracts for professional services by statutory corporations and bodies.
A statement issued and signed by Dr Ekow Sam, coordinator of the consortium in Accra, indicated that Sir Adjaye, Adjaye and Associates' principal architect, was not an approved or licensed architect to practice the profession of architect under the decree. on Architects of 1968 (NRCD 357) as modified.
"Even more surprising is that Adjaye and Associates is currently recruiting architects internationally, while there are well-trained, qualified, certified and registered architectural firms in the country that can provide the services required.
"Due to the monopolization of projects awarded to foreign architects and engineers, the public has the negative impression that locally trained architects and engineers are incompetent and are not qualified to undertake such projects in the country, which is totally wrong, "the petition said.
In his speech, Nii Dadey stated that it was clear that Dr. Sam was protesting against an injustice that, he said, had been committed, but he acknowledged that not all projects entrusted to Sir Adjaye are directed by the government.
He said that for national projects of paramount importance, it would be appropriate for the government to open the process to the entire body of architects so that it can bid competitively.
