An Esquire item could have sank all the beans, including a 495 horsepower V8.
Three years ago, we had our first blurry preview of a first prototype Corvette C8, heavily camouflaged. Now, the covers of the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray 2020 arrived a bit early. An article from Squire magazine was published briefly and picked up on Apple News, revealing the final product and some key statistics. Although the article has since been deleted, we were able to grab the info before it disappeared. This is not yet official on the technical side, but it seems to be the mid-engine Corvette we were waiting for.
First, the engine. According to the disclosed information of Squireit's a 6.2-liter V8 called LT2, developing 495 horsepower and 470 pounds of torque. Equipped with the Z51 performance group, this car should reach 100 km / h in less than three seconds. Remember, this is the Corvette base model and if you want a comparison, the current 755 hp C7 ZR1 does the same sprint in 2.8 seconds. This is not a bad way to introduce a whole new platform.
However, there is bad news for the rank enthusiasts. As expected, there is no manual transmission option, at least for the moment. A new 8-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission supports shift, although superb shifting behind the steering wheel allows drivers to trade gear at will. Given the impressive time ranging from zero to 60, gear changes should occur much faster than even the best professional of the three pedals could do.
Since we're talking about performance, some things are familiar to long-time Corvette fans. The leak mentions an optional Z51 performance package including upgraded brakes, cooling system and exhaust system to let you hear the V8. The leak speaks of some of the aesthetics of the C8. Corvette fans will be happy to learn that the removable roof option still exists. For those who love traveling on the road, there are two storage areas. It is listed as an estimate, but this new C8 Stingray could be priced in the order of $ 70,000, according to Squire.
