Measles alert issued in Perth, Northbridge after a visit by several people

A measles warning was issued in Perth after the diagnosis of illness.

The West Australian Health Department indicates that the person went to several public areas of Perth and Northbridge between July 12 and July 14.

  • Friday, July 12 – Universal Store, 200 Murray Street, Perth, noon to 6 pm
  • Saturday, July 13 – Tony Roma, 919 Hay Street, Perth, between 6pm and 8pm and the Mechanics' Institute Bar, 222 William Street, Northbridge, between 7pm and 10pm.
  • Sunday, July 14: Polly Cafe, James Street Mall, Northbridge, from noon to 1:30 pm and Universal Store from 1pm to 5pm.

Children and adults who have been inadvertently exposed are at risk of getting measles if they are not already immunized.

People should remain vigilant at the onset of measles symptoms for the next three weeks if they are not immune from infection and have visited during this time.

Symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose and sore eyes, followed by a rash that forms on the head and then extends to the head.

The complications of measles can be fatal.
