More than 19,000 Ghanaians infected with HIV in 2018

– Ghana AIDS Commission (GAC) reports 55.3% of Ghana's population is aware of HIV status

– About 19,100 people became infected with HIV in 2018, according to the Ghana AIDS Commission

– The total number of people living with HIV for all ages is 334,714. Of the number of people living with HIV, 350,200 are adults and 29,514 are children.

The Ghana AIDS Commission revealed that about 19,100 people were infected with HIV in 2018 in Ghana.

The Commission stated that 3,300 people on infected persons were children under 14 years of age.

At the same time, the number of orphans infected with HIV / AIDS in the country would be 260,000.

The figures were revealed by the Acting Director General of the Ghana AIDS Commission, Kyeremeh Atuahene.

Mr Atuahene was talking about the report on national forecasts and forecasts for 2018 in Accra.

He added that new indicators such as fertility, mortality and bad-feeding, as well as various data sources were used for the projections.

The global accelerated target 90-90-90 makes it clear that by the end of 2020, 90% of all people living with HIV will know their status.

Atuahene said Ghana was doing well in the fight against HIV / AIDS, but achieving the 2020 target was highly unlikely.

In the meantime, the AIDS Commission hopes to be able to meet the needs of AIDS orphans who are not already receiving social support through the establishment of the AIDS Fund.
