Belgian international left Etihad stadium, but another could inherit captaincy for 2019-20 campaign
Kevin De Bruyne "would gladly accept" the opportunity to replace Vincent Kompany in Manchester City and become the new captain of the club.
The armband is up for grabs at the Etihad stadium after the departure of an iconic figure.
After 11 years of loyal service, Kompany left at the end of his contract and returned to Anderlecht as a player-manager.

The boss of the city said: "They will choose the captain when we are all together.
"After their return, they will meet and decide who will be the captain."
There are several candidates for the skipper side city, David Silva being considered one of the favorites.
De Bruyne, however, is delighted to be able to follow in the footsteps of a compatriot and take over from Kompany.
The talented midfielder said, "If the team wants me to be captain, I will gladly accept it.
"But I think everyone has to talk about it in teams and clubs. We will talk about it when everyone comes back.
"I think we have to do it together because it's a very important job, not only on the field, but outside of it."
De Bruyne has had a 2018-2019 season, but has already been part of the City's preparatory season alongside many top-rated youngsters.
The Blues recently brought Phil Foden into their first team, with Tommy Doyle and Taylor Harwood-Bellis among those knocking on the door.
De Bruyne told the Academy after seeing senior starts won in a 4-1 Premier League Asia Trophy victory over West Ham: "If you play for one of the best clubs in the world, be young you must be exceptional.

"I started in Belgium, the level is not the same as here, it may be easier to have more chances.
"If you want to play for us, you know what the level is and if you play in the field, you will have the opportunity.
"I think they've done very well and I'm happy to see that. A great moment for many of them to embark for the first time in a club like us. "
