The Hong Kong film actor and producer Simon Yam was stabbed while he was speaking on stage at a promotional event in China.
The star, who appeared in many award-winning films, was in Zhongshan City when the incident occurred.
The video shared on Weibo, the Chinese equivalent of Twitter, shows a man who approaches the scene and throws himself on the actor before a violent fight breaks out.
Mr. Yam's manager stated that his client's injuries were not life threatening and that he had been taken to the hospital.
"He was stabbed in the stomach and cut in the arm, but he was conscious all the time," said Lester Mo Gee-man at the South China Morning Post.
He added: "A preliminary investigation showed that his injuries were not critical, but the doctors are still deciding whether to operate or not."
The actor, aged 64, appeared Saturday at the opening of a new store in Zhongshan, in the southern Guangdong Province.
The video shows a man who rushes onto the stage and takes a weapon out of his pocket. One can then see him badping Mr. Yam, who is desperately trying to get away while holding his stomach.
The security guards then rushed to intervene and, according to the police, the attacker was arrested at the scene.

In a second video that also circulated on social media, one can see Mr. Yam standing stomach in the aftermath of the attack while he was asking to be taken to the hospital.
The actor began his career as a model before playing in a number of critically acclaimed Chinese language movies.
He made his Hollywood debut in the movie Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life in 2003 in which he played the role of a crime lord.
