Listeria contamination: Recall of sandwiches and salads sold at Target with fears of potential infection

A food manufacturer who makes sandwiches and salads sold at one of the country's largest retailers recalls more than 1,000 crates when he feared potential contamination with listeria.

Elevation Foods, which produces Archer Farms brand sandwiches and salads, said it was voluntarily remembering a series sold at Target and Fresh Market. Target is the eighth largest retailer in the United States.

Products include a Fresketbrand egg salad, a tuna salad and a Thai lobster salad, as well as Archer Farms devoured egg sandwiches, produced on June 18, 2019.

"Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious or life-threatening infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and people with weakened immune systems," the company said in a statement released by the FDA. . (FDA)

"Although healthy individuals only suffer from short-term symptoms, such as a high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.

"Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women."

"We believe that fewer than 1,087 crates of products have been shipped directly to retail warehouses across the United States," he added.

"No disease has been reported so far."

The products were manufactured at Elevation Foods' facilities in Knoxville, Tennessee.

He adds, "Elevation Foods is working with distributors and retailers to quarantine and recover any affected product remaining in stores."
