Fresh Market and Target recall some of their salads and sandwiches because of potential contamination with listeria, according to the US Food and Drug Administration.
Elevation Foods lists Archer Farms egg salad containers; Freskët brand egg salad, tuna salad and Thai lobster salad; and the Archer Farms brand Frozen Egg Sandwiches prepared on June 18th are all recalled.
The Fresh Market said that Thai lobster salad sold by the pound in the self-serve seafood salad bar and in pre-packaged containers is included in the recall.
According to the company, 1,087 crates of products were manufactured at Elevation Foods' Knoxville facility and shipped to retail warehouses across the country.
The company says that if consumers want to know if they have a potentially contaminated product, they should check the use-by date and the lot number on the side of the containers or lids.
No disease has been reported yet, but Listeria bacteria can cause serious and sometimes deadly infections in children, the elderly and anyone with weakened immune systems, according to the FDA. Healthy people can develop short-term symptoms such as high fever, headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. In women, listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths at birth.
Elevation Foods officials said they discovered the problem after receiving a positive test result from three affected egg salad containers sampled and tested by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. The company says it is striving to find the source of listeria.
If you find any recalled food products, return them to the dealer from whom you purchased them for a full refund.
