The International Adomi River Festival will begin August 7th

An expedition to explore the largest artificial lake in the world, Lake Volta, will occupy a central position in one of Ghana's largest destinations, Akosombo, from August 7th to 10th.

The first edition of the festival, called "Adomi International River Festival", aims to promote nautical tourism in the country. Many thrilling events await you, including regattas, water cycling, jet skiing and diving competitions.

Speaking at the festival's launch, Mr. Richard Sumah, general manager of Appise Music and Media, organizer of the event, said the festival's initiative was annexing the untapped opportunities of the Volta to help attract tourism to the area.

"We want to give indigenous people the opportunity to tell their story and sell what they already have, which would expand economic activities and make the district one of the world's major tourist destinations," he said.

Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III, supreme chief of the traditional region of Akwamu, congratulated the organizers for their efforts in order to take a major step in the realization of the festival.

"This festival will help us tell our own story, along with the fun and commercial activities that would make Asougyaman District a favorite spot in August.

"I urge all indigenous people to be part of the festival and make it a success because it will change the destiny of the district," he said.

Odeneho lamented the underutilization of Lake Volta and its environs, after claiming that the lake had not fulfilled its function, but believed that such initiatives would make the lake very useful.

Mr. Samuel Kwame Agyekum, district director of Asuogyaman District Assembly, stressed the importance of tourism in the growth of the region, but stressed the need to explore more before the opportunities available in the region.

"We know that tourism is one of the economic engines of the region, but we have not yet been able to exploit the full potential of these tourist sites. We are therefore ready to advance tourism in the region and with such festivals, we could have a significant impact in the tourism sector, "he said.

This four-day event will feature a large street carnival and a candlelight procession that will inspire the enthusiasm of locals and visitors alike.
