Lucknow, July 21 (IANS): Morning badembly sessions and extracurricular activities in all public schools in Uttar Pradesh will now take place in the open air instead of in clbadrooms and auditoriums. The idea behind this is to stimulate calcium and vitamin D in students.

The decision was made following a recent directive from the Department of Human Resources Development (MHRD) to all states and territories of the Union, calling for more physical activity under the sun to fight against diseases, such as rickets (soft bones and skeletal deformities), vitamin D deficiency.

Lalita Pradeep, Additional Director of State (Basic Education), said, "Schools will now have to organize their morning prayers and other open-air activities. Most village schools already have outdoor sessions, but those in urban and semi-urban areas will also focus on organizing outdoor games. "

She said the MHRD had asked the 29 states and seven territories of the Union to "promote programs of exposure to the sun" in their respective schools.

This highlights the need to eradicate diseases caused by lack of vitamin D.

As part of this program, awareness lectures will also be held in state public schools, as well as outdoor activities during free periods.

During the growth phase, schoolchildren remain very sensitive to the effects of calcium and vitamin D deficiency on the bones, which are mainly manifested by rickets.

This disease can have serious consequences for the growth of children and lead to malformations and disabilities throughout life.
