Times24 Co., an operator of parking and car sharing services, will start renting electric vehicles (EVs) in August, a first in Japan.

Times24 initially plans to offer 100 electric vehicles and will later decide to increase the fleet based on demand. The Nissan Leaf Co. will be used for the rental service.

Times24 will install battery charging stations in its car parks. He has not yet decided on the royalty system.

The company will provide for the first time a Wi-Fi connection in electric vehicles, mainly for the growing number of people who rent cars do not drive, but rest or work online.

Times24, which had used four EVs as a test, estimated that demand for vehicles would increase in light of global environmental restrictions on vehicle emissions.

"Electric vehicles do not have idling noise and their use is booming," said Akira Saito, head of the car sharing division of the company. "As hybrid vehicles are already very popular in the carpool industry, I think a lot of people will want to use electric vehicles."
