Solskjaer struggled at the end of the last campaign when he was impressed when he was appointed interim director in December.
The Norwegian replaced Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford but could only lead Manchester United to a sixth-place finish in the Premier League, United having won only one of their last nine games of the season.
Solskjaer is now trying to create his own team at United and has recruited Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
And former Red Devils star Lee Sharpe has encouraged the boss to get through the season, provided he gets off to a good start.
"I do not think Mourinho was the right choice," said Sharpe Sky sports.
"I do not think David Moyes was probably the right choice. [Louis] Van Gaal on paper was probably a very good choice, but did not work very well, which happens from time to time.
"It was a time of trouble and nothing was really settled there.
"Hopefully Ole can start well this season, they will give him some time and some transfer windows and he can build the team he hopes to have."
Solskjaer has had a successful pre-season field so far.
Manchester United has not yet sold off during his tour of Australia and Asia.
They beat Inter Milan 1-0 on Saturday, with Mason Greenwood scoring the only goal of the match.
And Solskjaer wants to give Greenwood a chance for the coming season.
He said: "Mason [Greenwood] I have never intended to send on loan.
"We have to keep it here. He is ready to be part of the first team.
"He is a natural finisher. He trains, of course, but he knows just where the goal is.
"Sometimes we have players like this and it's a natural marker."
