Thai health authorities have reported nearly 50,000 dengue cases since the beginning of the year, and health officials will now find measures to rapidly contain dengue fever.

To date, the Thai Ministry of Health has reported 49,174 cases and 64 deaths.

Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, during his Saturday visit to patients in hospitals in Loei Province, said that he had asked the national health agencies to install a surveillance system. Dengue fever throughout the country and report the number of new infections in case of outbreak.

"Local authorities and volunteers across the country will be spraying chemicals to kill mosquitoes," said Anutin, adding, "Due to the rainy season, residents will be advised to destroy mosquito breeding sites at home. inside and around their homes ".

It is estimated that the number of patients could reach 130,000 cases for the whole year.

Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral infection that causes a serious illness that resembles the flu and can sometimes lead to a life-threatening complication called severe dengue fever. About half of the world's population is at risk and this affects infants, young children and adults. The incidence of dengue fever has increased 30-fold over the past 50 years. It is now estimated that 50 to 100 million infections are diagnosed each year in more than 100 endemic countries, representing a risk for almost half of the world's population.
