Manchester City remains in the transfer race to sign Harry Maguire this summer, according to reports.
It is believed that Manchester United is getting closer to Maguire's signature and recent reports have even claimed that the central defender had to undergo a medical check-up with the Red Devils.
There has been no further update on the future of Maguire and Brendan Rodgers has since indicated that time is running out for the defender's contenders.
Although United seems to be the favorite, the Mirror City claim not to lose hope of signing Maguire.
However, City must give way to Maguire in his team and want to dismiss the central defenders Nicolas Otamendi and Eliaquim Mangala in order to reap the funds needed to improve their offer for the English international.
Leicester City has already rejected an offer from the Premier League champions, who claim a figure as close as possible to £ 90 million.
After United and City were denied bids of £ 70m, the Red Devils would have improved their bid to £ 85m.
Pep Guardiola is an admirer of Maguire, but unless City can find a buyer for Otamendi and Mangala, they will be forced to give up their intention to submit another bid.
Mangala has been on loan for the last three seasons, while Otamendi plans to return to La Liga after four years in City.
City and United will have to act quickly to land at Maguire after Rodgers warned the clubs concerned of closing their door.
"There will be a point of arrival," Rodgers said.
"We can not let it go – there are goals we have in mind if Harry had to move on, but we do not have to sell.
"If the badessment is not respected, it certainly will not be allowed to go to the end because if we wanted to bring in someone, it would be too late.
"So, there will be a point – even if the badessment is completed – it may be too late."
