Developed by the American company "Entrupy", this new technology will detect counterfeit products sold in Dubai stores. Entrupy's AI-based device is linked to a vast database of thousands of microscopic images of branded products, particularly leather products, watches and accessories, as well as clothing. The company will add other branded products to its interface in coordination with Dubai Economy by the last quarter of 2019.
Mohammed Ali Rashid Lootah, CEO of CCCP, said Dubai Economy would be the first government entity in the UAE and the region to adopt AI solutions to combat counterfeiting. "The new technology helps to increase the accuracy of forfeitures and saves time and effort during field inspections, improving the happiness and productivity of our employees."
Lootah added that the new solution was a qualitative addition to the artificial intelligence technology adopted in 2018 to protect and empower consumers, Dubai to the satisfaction of businesses and consumers.
With the new device, the inspector can detect counterfeit goods with high speed and accuracy, eliminating the need for tedious communications and checks with brand representatives. Given the large number of consumer goods sold in Dubai, CCCP inspectors had to be trained periodically, in badociation with brand owners, to identify counterfeit products. In some cases, the confiscated property had to be subjected to laboratory tests at the regional or global offices of the owners of the mark. Sometimes, the test may show that the product is original but the process itself would have taken two weeks or two months.
