Semi-Annual Review to Increase Revenue to Complete Akufo-Addo Agenda | Policy

The review of the mid-year budget to be presented by the Minister of Finance on July 29, according to the Minister of Information, the Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah will focus, among other things, on increasing the government's revenue to finance the outstanding coordinated programs of social and economic policies.

According to him, the constitution requires each administration to prepare a coordinated program of social and economic policies with which it will govern.

"Annual budget programs are designed to fund and execute part of this program each fiscal year. Although the Administration believes that it is meeting its commitments to Ghanaians on a regular basis, the mid-term budget review will provide an opportunity to review the availability of revenue to implement the remaining programs, including the infrastructure, "he added.

He reiterated that because of the financing of social and economic policies, the revenue mobilization highlighted in the 2019 budget will remain a key element of the mid-term review.

S addressing the media on July 21 Sunday afternoon in the conference room of the Ministry of Information, Hon. Hopping Nkrumah emphasized that the goal would be to ensure that the government mobilizes enough resources to fully honor the outstanding commitments.

Hopefully, this same vigor will translate into our revenue mobilization efforts to ensure we are fully funding and executing outstanding programs, "he said.

He again mentioned that "the government has already begun to reduce some of the avoidable expenses, including ongoing work on reducing the capacity charges we do not consume. We expect that reducing avoidable expenditures while increasing revenues will create additional fiscal space to fully fund and execute the outstanding programs as part of medium-term expenditure. "
