A women's weekend on the seafront has turned out to be a "shabby student house" in front of an Aldi on a main road.

Catherine Marray, 26, has booked "The Old Farm House" in Bagot Street in Wavertree, Liverpool, for a girls' weekend with her visiting Oxford friend.

The list uploaded on Booking.com indicates that the property is a "homestay" with "wellness facilities", including a "hot tub and jacuzzi."

The online listing of the vacation rental is also subject to promises of "daily housekeeping" and "on-site shopping" – which cost Catherine £ 70 for two nights.

However, when Catherine and her friend Deborah arrived at the property on Friday, July 12, they realized that the reality was very different from what was announced.

Sending to Liverpool Echo, she said: "I arrived around 16:30 and the door was kept open with a weight on a dumbbell."

Catherine lives in Old Swan, Liverpool, but wanted to book a weekend in an apartment that would facilitate her city trips on weekends for her daughters.

She states that she did not notice the description of the property on the waterfront until the day of her arrival, which implied that it was an error.

Well aware that she would not stay in a five star accommodation for £ 35 a night, Catherine said she was expecting things to be basic.

She said, "I do not care about anything that plunges, as long as it's clean because we're going to be out all day."

However, when the girls returned to the property on Friday night to settle in their room, the true state of their housing was revealed.

Catherine told us, "We were shown to our room and found torn curtains, an old lumpy mattress, a flickering lamp.

The owner then pbaded me a simple blanket and asked me to strip it because it was busy.

"He left another duvet and single sheets in front of our room, so we had to make our own bed."

Catherine went to their room. "We decided to go to the room, have a drink, and then go out. We were like, "Let's go to power and we can go out".

The girls' room, which has been described as "the best of the house", featured "black pieces of fabric torn" for curtains and blinds stuck upside down.

In both bathrooms, a sink was covered with bleach, the toilet seat was broken in half and none of the doors were locked.

Catherine claimed that the property looked like a "shabby student home" and not a "family vacation rental" – and that she had just decided to "smile and endure it".

Despite booking the Wavertree property for their weekend break, the girls finally had to return to Old Swan for a shower.

Back home from Bagot Street on Saturday night, they were disgusted to find the property "stinking of the weed".

Catherine said, "On Saturday night, as we walked upstairs, we could only smell weeds.

"In our room, where the smoke detector was, there was a bag of bread attached to the ceiling. I would like to be able to say that I did it. & # 39;

After hearing the owner's improper responses to their complaints, Catherine and Deborah decided to leave their key in the door and sneak away on Sunday morning.

"In this case, we get a full refund for this client and we are also in communication with the property regarding the changes to be made to the information that they have chosen to list on our platform in order to ensure they are safe. ensure that they set clear expectations for customers. "
