DTE Energy plans to acquire three new wind farms in Michigan, which are expected to help reduce carbon emissions from the company's operations.
The Detroit-based utility said the Michigan Public Service Commission had granted conditional approval for the proposed purchase.
Two of the wind farms are located in Isabella County, central Michigan. Their commercial commissioning is scheduled for next year. The third park will be located in Delta County, Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
Together they should increase DTE Energy's renewable energy portfolio by almost 50%. The electricity company says the projects will offset nearly 890,000 tonnes of carbon emissions a year.
The CEO of DTE Energy, Jerry Norcia, said that investing in renewable energy was a key part of the utility's commitment to reduce carbon emissions by at least 80% of the total. 39, here 2040.
