DETROIT – The teams are working to restore power after two days of severe storms, which have disabled power for about 500,000 Michigan homes and businesses.

Two utility companies expect that electricity will be restored for everyone by Tuesday.

DTE Energy, based in Detroit, said Sunday afternoon that about 390,000 customers were without electricity because of storms in southeastern Michigan on Friday and Saturday. Their estimate was slightly higher than that of the morning. Officials say it's the biggest storm that has hit the area since March 2017.

The public service hopes to restore power to 150,000 customers on Sunday. The weather has lowered about 1,900 lines.

Consumers Energy, a Jackson, Michigan-based company, said Sunday that about 220,000 customers were affected. According to their estimates, about half of people would still not be fed until Sunday noon. The utility said the storms had shot more than 2,600 wires.
