The future Hyundai Mobis concept car, M Vision, which was unveiled in Las Vegas in January this year, features a camera-based surveillance system (CMS).

Hyundai Mobis has developed a camera surveillance system (CMS) that can replace mirrors.

The new product should eliminate exterior noise caused by conventional mirrors, improve energy efficiency by reducing air resistance and help automotive designers create innovative designs.

Hyundai Mobis has become the first Korean company to develop a content management system. In a content management system, cameras are installed at the mirror locations to monitor the surroundings of the vehicle and display them on an internal monitor. This technology expands the viewing area and significantly reduces blind spots, improves driving safety and helps designers to make innovative design changes to external vehicles by applying various cameras.

The viewing angle of the cameras is greater than 35 degrees, which is more than double the viewing area of the general side mirrors, which is about 17 degrees. Hyundai Mobis explained that the content management system allows people to drive cars without controlling blind spots by turning their heads.

In particular, the CMS monitor is installed inside the car, with only small camera arms installed on both sides of the vehicle. As a result, the CMS can eliminate exterior noise generated by conventional mirrors and increase energy efficiency by reducing air resistance.

These benefits encourage countries around the world to put in place CMS regulations. Currently, only a few companies have secured technology. Hyundai Mobis plans to step up its efforts to land more orders by taking full advantage of its CMS technology. The demand for the content management system will increase to 200,000 units in 2023, according to forecasts from global market research firm IHS Markit.
