A new drug delivery system has been developed to stealthily conceal chemotherapy drugs in the form of fat in order to catch cancer cells without knowing it.
In animal testing, the drug has been shown to successfully thwart, penetrate and destroy tumors of three common types of cancer.

A new delivery system
By linking chemotherapy to fat, which cancer cells essentially feed on, new forms of treatment can "defeat" cancer cells by feeding them with something that will kill and destroy them.
As Science Daily reports, the drug also has lower toxicity than current chemotherapy drugs, which means it would result in far fewer side effects.

"It's like a Trojan horse," Nathan Gianneschi, head of research at Northwestern University, told Science Daily.
"It looks like a nice little fatty acid, so the tumor receptors see it and invite it in. Then the drug starts to be metabolized and kills the tumor cells."
In this study, researchers used the new drug delivery system to transport the Paclitaxel, an FDA-approved chemotherapy drug, against tumors that have developed in a test animal.
The drug successfully entered and completely eliminated the tumors caused by three types of cancer: the bones, the colon and the pancreas.
As Professor Workman, chief executive of the Institute for Cancer Research, told The Daily Mail: "Cancer's ability to adapt, evolve and become drug-resistant is at the origin the vast majority of deaths due to the disease and the biggest challenge we face in overcoming it. "
This new method, in principle, does not trigger this "evolution" of cancer cells that can repair themselves and become resistant to treatment after the first chemotherapy treatment.
