A one – day workshop was organized to inform and educate members of the International Spouses Association of Ghana (ISAG) on the conditions and processes for obtaining immigration permits.
The workshop was organized by the Migration Management Office (MMB) of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) and organized at its national headquarters in Accra.
Examples of topics included the emergency entry visa, the extension permit, the indefinite residence permit, the investor residence permit (general), the right of residence and citizenship.
Ms. Baaba Asare, spokesperson for the Comptroller General of Immigration, said that ISAG had a longstanding relationship with GIS since its inception. in 1994. "I remember moments when some of your pioneers sought the badistance of the former director of immigration, the current ambbadador of Ghana to Spain, Elizabeth Adjei, and its willingness to engage you, "she added.
She expressed her enthusiasm for their desire to acquire more information on immigration permits. "We are delighted that you are here to get more information and explanations on all issues related to immigration permits," she said.
She badured them of the continued support of the GIS to help them obtain the appropriate work and residency permits and hoped that the relationship between GIS and ISAG would improve after the workshop.
Ms. Asare acknowledged the contribution of some ISAG members to the indefinite residence permit design document in the development of the Immigration Act 2000, Act 573.
She congratulated them for making Ghana their second home and for contributing to the socio-economic development of their families and the country in general.
She advised them to respect the law and contribute to the peace and security of the country while enjoying Ghanaian hospitality.
ISAG President, Ms. Rebecca Ashley Asare, said in her remarks that the creation of the badociation was intended to help foreign spouses facing difficulties in obtaining a residence permit, but that they were not allowed to attend. she then expanded her goals to help spouses fully integrate into Ghanaian society and live life to the full. productive lives as members of their family, their community and the nation.
"We also promote and defend the legal rights of our members to live and work in Ghana, as do our Ghanaian spouses," she added.
She pointed out that, in addition to their contribution to the 2000 immigration law, which granted them an unlimited residence permit with the right to live and work in the country, they also contributed to the 2013 Council Act. Ghana Investment Promotion Agency (GIPC), ACT 865., which exempts them from the requirement to import foreign capital when registering a company.
Dr. Asare acknowledges the tremendous support GIS has provided to the Association to learn about the rights and responsibilities of foreign spouses in Ghana. However, it expressed concern about the difficulties faced by some members in obtaining an indefinite residence permit and dual nationality.
"I therefore hope that the workshop will solve some of the problems we face and better understand our rights in terms of indefinite residence permits," she said.
