Arsenal news: Jens Lehmann expresses on Aubameyang-Man Utd transfer links

Jens Lehmann insists that Arsenal could find a suitable substitute for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang if the striker led a shock move to Manchester United this summer.

Gabonese international Aubameyang has scored 41 goals in 65 caps for Arsenal since signing Borussia Dortmund in January 2018.

Despite his key role as the director of Arsenal, Unai Emery, this 30-year-old player was linked to a summer move, with several Chinese clubs interested in an agreement.

Manchester United have also been designated as a potential destination for Aubameyang, while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking for reinforcements before his first full season at the helm of the Red Devils.

Asked about rumors that Aubameyang would be transferred to Old Trafford, former Arsenal goaltender Lehmann told DAZN: "If you finish fifth [in the league] you can sell players.

"If he had to go to United, a new player would be able to do better. Arsenal's goal should not be to finish fifth or sixth. "

Arsenal looked on the verge of qualifying for the Champions League last season before collapsing quietly towards the end of the campaign and finally finishing fifth.

The Gunners then missed the opportunity to qualify for the Champions League by losing the Europa League final by Chelsea.

Arsenal "Invincible" Lehmann, who won the Premier League and FA Cup during his career with the Gunners, added: "All players who play for Arsenal are good, but they have to win something.

"They were in the Europa League final last season and lost, obviously it would have been good if they won.

Their arrival in the league was disappointing too. Even though they were lucky enough to get fourth or even third place, they did not do it.

"The club is in a situation where nobody knows in which direction it is supposed to go."
