US Ambbadador to Ghana, Stephanie Sullivan, said a five-year project had been set up to provide water to more than 300,000 people living in rural Ghana.
The project, which costs about $ 19 million in partnership with the Ministry of Sanitation, will provide water to nine regions of Ghana.
She made it known during her courtesy call to the Minister of Sanitation, Cecilia Dapaah, on Monday, 22 July 2019.
During her call, she said, "For this five-year project, we have more than $ 19 million, which we believe should power more than 300,000 people, mostly in rural areas, who have, like you mentioned, difficulties in accessing water.
In response to the US Ambbadador's appeal, the Minister of Sanitation, Cecilia Dapaah, indicated that her company had put in place plans for funding to ensure care of these vulnerable people.
She also noted that the recently approved project on Tamale Water would produce 30 million gallons of water a day, hence a huge capacity system to meet the needs of a population considerable until 2040.
In addition, the minister noted that the 1-to-1 household toilet project 1 run by the Greater Accra Metropolitan Assembly (GAMA), funded by both the World Bank and the Government of Ghana, had made significant progress.
"We have the GAMA project, funded by the World Bank and the GOG. We provide toilets in homes and the vision is to expand the policy from one toilet to another so that people have dignity in sanitation. They also work closely with Ghana Water Company Limited to bring water to homes, "she said.
She added that 1,200 toilets are being built every month in the homes, in the hope that the policy will be expanded to ensure people's sanitation dignity.
However, this project 1 household 1 toilet has a revolving fund of $ 600,000 deposited in two banks where people can access the funds for the project and repay them within three or six months.
