Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has supported the fear of burnout among top international players Jurgen Klopp, saying the "crazy" schedule would "kill our players".
Klopp, who should be without Sadio Mane for the Community Shield against the triple winner City, in Wembley, after Senegal reached the finals of the Africa Cup of Nations and still waiting Mohamed Salah (who played for Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations) and the Brazilian duo Roberto Firmino and Alisson, winner of the Copa America, spoke out against the grueling demands of its best players.
He said: "It seems that no one can imagine a week without football in the year. When did it happen? A game again, a game again.
"It's difficult, difficult for boys. All will be well this season. But in the long run, we have to change it.
Guardiola is in a similar boat with Riyad Mahrez on the Algerian side who defeated Senegal's Mane in the Africa Cup of Nations finals, Gabriel Jesus of Brazil, and Sergio Aguero and Nicolas Otamendi both with the United Nations. ;Argentina.
Supporting the Reds boss who pushed him into a run for the Premier League title last season, Guardiola said: [players] will come on the 29th or the 30th (July); the others will come in three or four weeks.
"They decide to come back in three or four weeks. I do not want them to come back if they are not fit, tired or mentally recovering from an extremely difficult season.
"We can not forget that we started a new season while Riyad Mahrez did not finish last.
"It's a crazy program and it's going to kill our players! We can not maintain this for a long time.
"They have to breathe, rest and improve the quality of the tournaments. They must rest.
Manchester City played 61 games last season and Liverpool had 53 with the Reds for seven silver in the upcoming campaign.
