Kano Pillars Train Kano Pillars will face Kotoko in the preliminary round of the CAN

Kano Pillars coach Ibrahim Musa expressed his optimism about his chances of beating Ghana's Asante Kotoko to reach the second round of the preliminary zone of the Caf Champions League.

A draw in the first round Sunday pitted the Nigerian side against Porcupine Warriors. The winners of this two-legged matchup clashed against Hafia FC of Guinea or Etoile Sahel of Tunisia in the next round.

Pillars finished second in the Professional Football League of Nigeria (NPFL) last season, while Kotoko, a two-time African champion, won Ghana's special competition to qualify for this year's championship.

"We have a better chance of eliminating Asante Kotoko. We will do our best, "Musa told Ghana's Oyerepa FM radio station.

"I heard about the team [Kotoko] but I do not know much about them.

"We are not afraid of Kotoko, what you bring now is more important than the success achieved years ago.

"We have just finished our league in Nigeria. We are preparing very well because we are going to meet a big team in Ghana.

"Our goal in the Champions League this season is to win the title."

The pillars must host the first leg on the weekends of 9, 10 and 11 June, before leaving for the return match two weeks later.

Masu Gida's best performance in the competition remains a semifinal in 2009.
