Asiedu Nketia Rti NDC Secretary General, Asiedu Nketia

Johnson Asiedu Nketia, general secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), said he would willingly run for the post of vice president of John Mahama in the 2020 general election.

NDC observers say that Asiedu Nketia is considered a candidate for the vice-presidency of John Mahama in the upcoming elections.

Johnson Asiedu Nketia told Citi News that it was an offer he would not refuse.

"What I mean is that no one is campaigning to be a vice presidential candidate, it's an appointment that's being offered, so those who have to offer him the 39 will offer at the appropriate time. I do not spend my time thinking about it, but if the party decides to play any role, why not, "he said.

The NDC elected John Dramani Mahama as the standard bearer before the 2020 general election.

The former president has become the presidential candidate of the CND after defeating six other candidates.

Mahama received 213,487 votes, or 95.23% of the total votes cast.

The other competitors – Prof. Joshua Alabi, Alban Bagbin, Goosie Tanoh, Dr. Ekwow Spio Garbrah, Sylvester Mensah and Nurudeen Iddrisu received 5% of the combined votes.

The ruling party, the new Patriotic Party (NPP), won the 2016 elections with an overwhelming margin: 53% of the total votes cast, while the NDC could only manage 44.4%.

Mahama's defeat in 2016 remains the worst electoral defeat ever suffered by the outgoing president of the fourth republic of Ghana.
