NDC Secretary General, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah
The main opposition party, the NDC, is asking President Akufo-Addo to decide the fate of the interim IGP as the country moves towards the 2020 general election.
"It is dangerous for a country to embark on a major election with an interim IGP in charge of security," said Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, NDC general secretary in Kasapa, 102.5 fm.
"Thinking that he could be sacked in a day, he will not have the confidence to take charge of security issues in the run-up to the elections."
President Akufo-Addo has asked the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Mr. James Oppong-Boanuh, to act as IGP until the appointment of a Background IGP.
David Asante-Apeatu, a senior member of the IGP, was removed from office on Monday, July 22, 2019.
Mr. Asante-Apeatu has gone on leave with immediate effect pending his retirement from the Ghanaian police on Wednesday, August 14, 2019.
He is due to retire from the Ghanaian police on Wednesday, August 14, 2019.
"The president thanked him for his many years of service in the country and wished him a good retirement," said Eugene Arhin, director of communication of the presidency, in a press release.
Oppong-Boanuh has been granted a one-year extension of contract last year, in October, following his retirement. Until his appointment, Mr. Oppong-Buanuh was the director general of the administration.
Meanwhile, Asiedu Nketiah told Kasapa, 102.5 Fm, the interim IGP, James Oppong-Boanuh, who would suffer the same fate as his predecessor in his new role.
"Political machinations have been the problem of our professional police to work effectively. As I know Oppong-Boanuh, it can work very well, he can do it, but I doubt it, because I can predict that what Appietu would suffer would have the same consequences, "he said. told the animator Kweku Owusu Adjei to Anopa Kasapa in Kasapa. 102.5.
