Celebrating the life of the political activist and former president who died on July 18, many residents and businesses in Pietermaritzburg took to the streets to do their part for 67 minutes of goodwill and to mark the 67 years Nelson Mandela spent trying to the world better. in law.
The Newholmes Elementary School celebrated and honored Mandela through songs, poems, dances and a poster competition, while Grade 5 students sacrificed their time to clean up the school during their 67 minutes. LIMA visited Kalinka Edu Care, who was present at the school. She created her own garden and initiated the idea of creating various community gardens in the area. Bernice Reddier, director of Kalinka Edu Care, said the vegetable garden was created as part of its commitment to Mandela Day and that the students also received the same day holiday kits.
KZN museum staff members decided to spend their Mandela day sharing their pbadion with students from Windyhill Primary School in Wartburg. A little over 50 students from the first to seventh grade of the school spent the Mandela day at the museum and engaged in fun activities while learning what's going on behind the scenes of a museum .
"Archaeologists in our museum taught them to do archaeological digs. Learners went behind the scenes of our natural science department to see their work. They were captivated by the stories told by our librarians and organized fun DIY activities with our Museum Exhibitions Department. .
They were treated to a delicious lunch not to mention the birthday cake, "said Viranna Frank, the museum's marketing and public relations officer.
The museum staff has given their time to share with the students what they are pbadionate about in the hope that it will inspire them to dream big and know that they can do just about anything.
