Tammy Abraham claimed that he was more than willing to wear the number nine jersey to Chelsea, although the sweater is becoming a poisonous chalice at Stamford Bridge in recent years.
Abraham donned the new jersey during the pre-season win over Barcelona, scoring the opening goal with a superb two-touch finish ahead of Marc-Andre Ter Stegen. After the match, he revealed that he felt "ready" to take the number.
Quoted by the Daily Mail, he explained, "I am honored to bring number 9 to Chelsea, I spoke to the manager and he asked me if I was ready to take it." I said, "Yes, I'm ready."
"I'm glad he offered it to me, I heard all the nonsense of No 9, but I'm here to play my game and do my best."
This "waste" revolves around the lost players who have already worn, including Khalid Boulahrouz, Franco Di Santo, Falcao Radamel, Steve Sidwell and more recently Gonzalo Higuain and Alvaro Morata.
The striker continued: "Football puts a lot of pressure on me, it pushes me in. It gives me another conviction, it was my first goal in the Chelsea jersey and now it's out of the way it will be nice to continue more. . "
Frank Lampard, new boss, said: "Tammy is hungry for goals, I like his attitude, he always wants to score, I saw him at the championship last year. He's proven and now it's time to score – prove it for Chelsea.
"Scorers need confidence, so reaching his goal will put him in a good position. It is vital for them to show that they can be Chelsea's main striker."
