The honored staff poses with the CGI
The Comptroller General of Immigration (CGI), Mr. Kwame Asuah Takyi, paid tribute on Monday to five distinguished officers of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) during a ceremony at his headquarters in Accra for their dedication to duty.
On July 8, 2019, four of the honored officers intercepted volumes of oil products smuggled through an unapproved road along Akanu's borders in the Volta region, while the other officer was busy the cleanliness of the environment in and around the national headquarters of the GIS.
Immigration officers include the Akanu sector commander, Chief Superintendent Godson Attobrah and the land agent, Deputy Superintendent Augustus Okyere. The others are Inspector Samuel Ampofo, Deputy Inspector Kofi Asante and Deputy Attorney General of Immigration 1 Israel Gidisu.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Takyi praised the officers for their courage, patriotism and dedication. He noted that the praise given to the management of the service by the state had to affect the officers who were in the thick of things. "When glory comes, it usually goes to the leaders. Glory should also go to the officers, "he said. "They could have taken money and allowed them to leave," he added.
The CGI indicated that management recognizes the efforts of the officers, hence the ceremony to show their appreciation. "The management and I recognize what you have done and give you this pledge to show our appreciation," he said.
Ms. Judith Dzokoto-Lomoh, Assistant Comptroller General for Finance and Administration, thanked the members of the Bureau for their friendly attitude, but also for their vigilance at the borders.
She congratulated them for their dedication and professionalism and encouraged them to do more. "More fat in the elbow," she added.
Ms. Dzokoto-Lomoh explained that they were honored that other officers knew that their good deeds were imitated.
For his part, the Assistant Comptroller General for the Command and Operations Post, Mr. Laud Kwesi Affrifah, stressed that it was urgent to staff the border patrol unit with the service and explained that A well-resourced border patrol unit significantly reduces resource leakage.
A certificate, an undisclosed amount and a plaque were presented to each by the CGI, the Deputy Comptroller General and the Head of the Department of Border Management, Commissioner Isaac Owusu Mensah.
