A call has been made for the cultivation and use of cannabis to be legalized.

Mr Ahuma Ocansey, President of the Rastafarian Council of Ghana, declared on Tuesday in Accra the first national cannabis conference.

On the theme of "Ghana Beyond Aid: The Contribution to Cannabis", the purpose of the day's conference was to raise awareness of the benefits of cannabis.

He added that the time had come for arguments based on scientific research and devoid of any bias regarding the legalization of cannabis in the country, adding that it was only in this way that the good qualities of the plant would be : appreciated.

Mr Ocansey said that the benefits of cannabis were such that decriminalizing its use, while putting in place the appropriate regulations, would make the plant an essential means of generating wealth in the country.

"In support of what he called widespread misconceptions about cannabis, Mr. Ocansey said over the years that governments around the world had misinformed," gave a very frightening picture of the hemp plant, far from what the plant is able to achieve. "

The good news, he continued, is that most developed countries have become aware of their mistakes and have begun to legalize once again the once important agricultural product.

Mr Ocansey said that to unleash the potential of cannabis to support the country's socio-economic growth, it was necessary to step up education on the true benefits of cannabis.

Mr. Godfred Aboagye, co-founder of the International Cannabis Company, said that as Africa became increasingly important in the international cannabis market, it was important for Ghana to strive to produce in the world. standards and in compliance with the regulations in force.

He said the lives of young people in Ghana could see considerable improvement if the country excelled in cannabis production in West Africa.

Aboagye called on the government and all other stakeholders to support the country's universities in their research on the uses of cannabis in order to uncover the true essence of the plant.
